The MPL T20 Cricket League Season 8 is an exciting cricket tournament that will feature 8 teams representing districts and zones across Kerala. The league will kick off on 29th December 2024 at the DC Stadium, Sharjah, with all matches being played in a round-robin format followed by qualifiers, eliminator, and finals.

Teams will compete in several stages, with the top two teams advancing to Qualifier 1, and the third and fourth teams battling in the Eliminator. The losing team from Qualifier 1 will play the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2, and the winners of Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 will meet in the Elite Cup Final. The remaining two teams will contest in the Plate Cup Final.

In this season, the Super Sub rule is introduced, allowing captains to name a player who can be substituted in at any point during the match. Players will wear official color jerseys provided by the tournament organizers, and specific safety regulations, including the mandatory use of helmets for batsmen and close-up wicketkeepers, will be in effect.

The MPL T20 Cricket League follows strict eligibility criteria, ensuring that only players of Kerala origin participate. Teams are required to submit their final playing XI and super sub information in advance, and players can only represent one team throughout the tournament. The tournament will be governed by professional umpires, and all decisions made by the tournament committee are final.

With the focus on fair play, sportsmanship, and competition, the MPL T20 Cricket League Season 8 promises to be a thrilling event for players and fans alike.

  1. MPL T20 Cricket League Season 8 matches will be played between 8 teams representing districts & zones in Kerala. All matches will be played at DC Stadium, Sharjah. The tournament will start on 29th December 2024.
  2. MPL matches will be played between all the participating teams followed by Qualifier, Eliminator, Plate Final & Elite Final.
  3. Top two teams will play qualifier 1 and the 3rd & 4th placed team will play eliminator and the loosing team of qualifier 1 will play against the eliminator winner in qualifier 2.
  4. Winners in qualifier 1 & 2 will play the elite cup final and the loosing team in eliminator and the loosing team in qualifier 2 will play the plate cup final.
  5. Super Sub is allowed for MPL season 8

    (a) Captains must mention the super sub player name along with the playing XI before the toss.
    (b) Super Sub player can brought in at any time of the innings.

  6. MPL organizers will provide color jerseys for all 20 members of each team. No player will be allowed to wear any other jersey while on the ground other than the one provided by the organizers. White color pads are not allowed to be used by batsmen since the matches are played with white balls.
  7. After registration the fixtures will be given to all teams well before the commencement of the tournament.
  8. MPL matches will be controlled by professional umpires.
  9. MPL permits only keralities (those who born in Kerala or parents/roots from Kerala) to play the tournament and no restrictions on visa status.
  10. Any concerns on the authenticity of any member(s) in any team should be submitted, in writing by the claimant team captain with convincing proof, to the tournament committee soon after completion of the match and before leaving the ground and the committee’s decision after verifying the same shall be final.
  11. MPL does not permit any player to play for more than one team during the course of this tournament. Breach of this clause will result in disqualifying the team, for which that player is playing, from the tournament.
  12. The teams must report at the allotted venue at least 45 minutes before the scheduled start time of the match. The names of the final playing 11+ 1 will have to be given 30 minutes before the scheduled start of the match.
  13. Toss will be done 20 minutes before the commencement of the match. If any of the team fails to report by the scheduled start of the match, then the other team will be given a walk over with 2 points. (Waiting time for the toss is 10 minutes from
    the toss time) & (Waiting time for the walkover is 40 minutes from the match time)
  14. Each team will be allowed 1.20 hours to complete the allotted 20 overs during the tournament. The umpires will have the right to penalize the defaulting teams.
  15. If the start of a match is delayed due to unforeseen circumstances/climatic conditions, then the match will be played on reduced overs calculating the time lost. If a minimum of 10 overs could not be played by each team then the match will be considered as abandoned, but for Finals this will be 15 overs.
  16. If any of the matches is abandoned completely due to unforeseen circumstances/climatic conditions will try to reschedule the match wherever it is possible.
  17. If there is an interruption in the second session of the match due to any unforeseen circumstances, then the number of overs to be played by the team batting second shall be reduced based on the time lost and revised target shall set by the technical/tournament committees/umpires based on the average runs scored by the team batting first.
  18. If any of the matches in the tournament ends up with a tie in runs, then the winner will be decided with the super over.
  19. If a player comes late and want to play the match, the captain of the player should request the same to the Umpire who will then take the decision after getting the consent from the captain of the other team. In that case, that particular player can bat only after the completion of the number of overs completed at the time of his entry into the match. (ex. if he join the match after 5 overs, he can bat only after the completion of the 5 th over of the other innings and can bowl after the completion of 10th over)
  20. The Umpire’s decisions shall be final in all matters related to the match. Only the captain of the team is authorized to talk to the Umpires. No argument between the players and Umpires is entertained. Any dispute or complaint about the conduct of the match must be put in writing to the tournament committee by the Captain at the venue immediately after the match.
  21. Entering and leaving the field will always be with the consent of the Umpires.
  22. No bouncers are allowed. (one per over warning won’t be applicable)
  23. Helmets are compulsory for the batsman and the wicketkeeper when he is close to the stumps
  24. The tournament committee has the right to reschedule any match, if required. Any change in format /schedule of the tournament will be informed to the team Captains/ Managers by the tournament committee.
  25. MPL Management or DC stadium or Genesis Sports and Event Management LLC will not be responsible for any sort of personal loss, injury or death due to injury during the course of this tournament and participation by the team/players in the tournament will be on their own risk and responsibility.
  26. No team shall be allowed to stop or interrupt any match for any reason, whatsoever.
  27. Teams breaking any of the rules during the course of the tournament will be disqualified from tournament without any prior notice.
  28. Decisions of the tournament committee shall be final and binding for all the matches.
