De Kock would not be Test captain: Graeme Smith

When, where and against whom South Africa will next play Test cricket remains uncertain in these virus vexed times. But we do know Quinton de Kock will not be their captain. The job has been vacant since Faf du Plessis relinquished the reins in February when de Kock was already the white-ball captain. He was thus in the running to take over the helm completely. Until an online press conference on Friday…

Asked what progress had been made on replacing du Plessis, Graeme Smith, Cricket South Africa’s director of cricket, said: “The one definitive answer that I can give you is that it’s not going to be Quinton. I can’t tell you who it’s going to be. We’re in a debate over it, and a strategy. There’s no one person we could pinpoint right now and say that’s the guy.”
